Helping Your Child Through the Teenage Years

If you have a busy house it is very important to find your teenager a place where he can do his or her homework in relative peace.
You need to remember that teenagers don't always communicate well and won't always be open about difficulties with schooling. Even if you can't find an area for a desk try and set aside a quiet family area for your teenager every evening.

Children are all individuals and some will want to do their homework as soon as they get home from school whilst others will prepare to eat dinner before doing it.
Try not to be to rigid with them as long as the homework is completed to a good standard and they are getting it back to school on time.
As a teenager they have important subject choices to make at a very young age so feel free to give your child advice if it is asked.
Never impose your choices upon as you are likely see falling standards in their work as they react badly.

It is best to try and guide them into making the correct choices so that both you and your child are happy.
Always try and learn a little of each subject your child is learning at school. Although you may have taken the same subjects as them the chances are that the curriculum has changed drastically since your time at school.
Although you won't be able to help your child with answers, having a basic knowledge of what they are going through will make your child realise you do take an interest in his future.

Try and encourage your child to take part time employment whilst at school even just a couple of hours a week.
This will make the transition between school and full time work so much easier in the future.
